This trail starts at 1237m and leads you all the way down to sea level. It offers a rich variety of scenic beauty: mountain views, large, ancient trees, narrow passages, a gurgling stream and at the end the reward of a swim in the Libyan Sea.
This gorge is part of the national park that is home to the protected Cretan Wild Mountain Goats. Most people need 5-6 hours for this hike. At the end of the walk you will reach the village Agia Roumeli where you can find taverns, bars and shops. Late in the afternoon the local ferry takes you to Sfakia wherea coach will drive you back to your accomodation.
The length of the walk, the very irregular, steep path and the heat during the summer months are a real challenge. We do NOT recommend this walk for small children, pregnant women and people with health problems!
Good and solid footwear is absolutely necessary!
